Five Star Review Excerpts
"Tango Intoxication is a very informative and entertaining book, that all tango dancers should read.
Batt Johnson shares his wisdom, sense of humor and unconditional love for tango!"
Inna-New York
"This is the first book in English I ever read all the way through. It's GREAT!"
Omar-Buenos Aires, Argentina
"Tango Intoxication is really helping me with my English."
Hoi Shan-Hong Kong
"This book has many tidbits and tales from tango teachers all over the world, as well as a lot of advice. It will be extremely useful for tango students to get some of this three dimensional understanding for their tango, as well as being highly amusing, fun, entertaining, and informative!"
G.G. Madeira-NYC
"A great and comprehensive book covering numerous aspects of Argentine tango. The best part is surely the interviews!"
Anna-Ukraine
"Your book was an educational immersion, not only because you inspire to the people to learn and practice, but because I learned more reading your book. You’re very generous including the master’s opinions (very hard to edit every comment!) and your analysis about how we can improve were perfect."
Gustavo Benzecry Saba-Professional Tango Dancer-Buenos Aires, Argentina
"Got my copy today and I'm reading it NOW! Had to take a break because it is too rich, like eating dessert....Really enjoying your book!"
Charles-Philadelphia
"Tango Intoxication digs deep into the art, the nuances, the stories, and the emotions behind the embrace. ...take the journey to the world's most complex and sensual dance!"
Nancy-Long Island
..."Tango Intoxication... is not a novel, but a compendium of interviews, reflections, and anecdotes...For those who have recently been "bitten by the bug" of Argentine Tango, it provides a great wealth of insight into tango history, etiquette, the learning process and everything else!
...Batt's manic enthusiasm driving the narrative, so to speak. His wonder, enthusiasm and love leaps off the page!
...I even had an unexpected epiphany in the chapter where Batt is interviewing Daniela Pucci about her decision to quit a successful professional career to become a tango dancer. So, needless to say, I recommend the book!"
Charles-Philadelphia
"...you will laugh, you will learn, and, most importantly, you will understand how tango helps individuals connect with each other emotionally, physically, and artistically."
Carol-Massachusetts
"In his book, Batt Johnson starts by tracing the history of tango, discussing its origins and influences, from African to the other many immigrants that had populated "El Rio de la Plata" when tango was born. I particularly enjoyed reading "the awaking," where he connected for the first time with the joie de vivre of tango."
Jusleine-New Jersey
"I really enjoyed this book. I've read just about every book about tango in English, and this is one of the better ones. It has a very conversational style with Batt telling stories and opinions based on his years in the New York tango scene and his tremendously varied background in the Art and media. I'm a fairly experienced tango dancer myself and it was really interesting to get his perspective on many things I thought about myself, like what makes a quality tango teacher or how the dance relates to the music. It also has nice interviews with many well-known tango dancers in the New York area. I had a couple of chance meetings with Batt at milongas (tango dance events) on a recent trip to New York, and his friendly outgoing personalty in real life shows up in every page of this book."
Mike-Florida
"Tango Intoxication covers it all, from tango’s origin stories to the legends of tango, both on the floor and in the orchestras, to personal experiences. Batt brings great wit to the subject, with a respectful nod and wink to the sometimes-ridiculous construct that is the tango. Unlike many books on tango, Batt includes his interviews with renowned dancers and performers, giving readers a truly inside look at the dance that is also a culture. The great thing about Batt’s book is its accessibility, do you like to learn about the arts and cultures, but don’t know about, or dance, tango? You’ll enjoy this book."
Earl Mckenzie-Edmonton, Canada
"A good introduction. This is an interesting book that deals with many aspects of Argentine tango dancing with the aim of giving the reader insight into the biomechnical, emotional and musical part of this great dance. The author is a very nice person and his enthusiasm for the dance and for improving his dancing qualities is inspiring. The book is intended to help others to improve the quality of their dance. The prose is easy to read."
